About The Course
Our Beginners Saxophone Course consists of 10 concise modules, each with an easy to follow video allowing you to complete the course at your own pace. The course will take you from getting the saxophone out of the case and putting it together, to learning about how to hold the saxophone and adjust the sling, how to place your mouth on the mouthpiece (embouchure) and tonguing, all the way to learning how to play a scale/arpeggio with some simple pieces along the way.
There is also a helpful PDF to accompany the video modules which contains all the sheet music for the videos within the course.

Requirements: A desire to learn to play the saxophone!
The mouthpiece, reed and ligature and how to put them together.
The main parts of the saxophone and how to connect them.
The sling/neck strap and how to raise it or lower it in order for the saxophone to be at the correct height and comfortable when you play.
The shape of your mouth around the mouthpiece when playing and where to position the top teeth and bottom lip/jaw.
Producing a sound with the saxophone and how to raise and lower the pitch of the notes with the mouthpiece.
Where to position the hands and fingerings for the notes G, A, B and C using the left hand.
Bars & bar lines, counting the beat, time signatures and key signatures.
Fingerings for the notes D, E, F, G and F# in the right hand.
Where to place the tongue on the reed and how to use it to control the production of the sound. Also reading slurs and using the tongue correctly to perform them.
How to play a G major scale & arpeggio and which notes are required for each.

Jon Melville
Having studied for a classical music degree at the University of Nottingham, Jon has since been living in the north of England and touring both the UK and abroad as a sax player, whilst also teaching saxophone for the past two decades at various levels, both in schools and privately. He has played shows on saxophone all over the UK and also in parts of Europe and South America.
